Why do I keep thinking it’s a Friday?

Posted on Wednesday, April 30th, 2008, 10:24 AM

Wishful thinking, that’s why. No less than five times so far this morning I’ve had to remind myself it’s only Wednesday. Which is better than it being Tuesday or (gah) Monday, but STILL. I’ve even hoped on several occasions that it was Thursday, because then at least I would have “Lost” and “The Office” and “30 Rock” to look forward to. Bummer.

The earthquakes seem to be (knock on wood) slowly diminishing. Of course, it’s not rumbling right under my feet like the poor people who live over in that area, so I only feel things in the high 3’s on up. And we haven’t had one of those since Monday morning. What with the fires we’ve been having in the area the last couple of days, I feel like Reno is being beset by plagues or something. The end is nigh! Repent!

I’ve become totally obsessed with cloth diapers. I know no one is impressed. Shoot, no wonder my comments have diminished lately… all I talk about is earthquakes and cloth diapers. Snore fest! But I’m just telling you what’s on my mind. I’ve decided I’d like to get several of the bumGenius one-size diapers to try out. They sound just about perfect for a newbie like me. Expensive, yes. I found a good coupon online though, and think I’ll use that. But now I’m also starting to think of other accessories it’d be nice to have like a diaper pail liner, some cloth wipes, extra inserts and a diaper sprayer. This is going to be spendy, yo. Come on, economic stimulus check!

Anywho.  I wish I had some thing more exciting to share with you all, but I don’t.  It’s hard to have anything to talk about when you’ve got a tick-leech attached to your person around the clock.  I love that tick-leech, mind you, but SHEESH.

Not a cloth diaper fan! I can’t be rude, though, because I’ve never really tried them, but I think that disposable diapers are, in a way, like us emerging from the dark ages….LOL

Crawling out from practicum hell, I’ve used cloth diapers (prefolds, fitted, pockets, & AIOs) on the kiddos that I’ve nannied for and I always found them quite easy. I will be using cloth diapers for my little ones in the future.

Three big plusses: early toilet training / learning from my experience (including my family, we were all under 2), so much better for the environment (a traditional cloth diaper takes 6 months to decompose while a disposable takes an estimated 500 years), and if you invest in good products it will actually be cheaper long term after the initial investment!

Thanks for the input! The more people who I hear have done it and found it to be not so bad, the more encouraged I feel. :) I went ahead and ordered three one-size AIO’s today. If they work out, we’ll get more. I may get prefolds or something else in the meantime since getting the “good stuff” will take us a while to build up.

I’m glad I’m not the only knocking on wood every day ;) Though, I’m still imagining these things…

I just bought a package of cheap white terry cloth wash cloths to use for wipes. They work really well (and they were $2.99 a pack at Target). it’s a lot nicer to use those with the cloth diapers because you don’t have to worry about carrying poopy wipes to the garbage (and having poopy wipes IN your garbage). You can just tuck the dirties in the cloth diaper and throw it all in the wash together.

I have a wipe warmer, and I wet my cloths and keep them in the warmer so Nicky gets a nice warm wipe and I don’t have to worry about wetting the cloths when I change him.

(You can tell me to shut up anytime. I just on a cloth diaper kick-you know how it is, right?)
