It has been a bizarre week around these parts. The earthquakes and the constant threat of them has been surreal. And when I haven’t been obsessed with that, then it’s been the whole cloth diaper thing. I swear to you, I DREAMED ABOUT CLOTH DIAPERS last night. That’s surely a sign that I have a problem, right? (Don’t answer that.) Speaking of such obsessions, have you noticed the poll in my sidebar? No? Well notice it now and go vote! And after you’re done doing that, come read these posts because they are awesome.
- Warm fuzzies and a hint of assvice from Poot and Cubby. As a newly minted mother of two small children, I can heartily attest that her “assvice” here is very sound indeed! Especially the bit about napping and needing a carrier in order to get ANYTHING done. Good luck to the new (again) mamas!
- Newsletter: Month Fifty and Fifty-one from dooce.com. Heather’s usual monthly love letter her daughter is filled with discussion about whether or not blogging about your child is an exploitive act. She, of course, says no and gives her reasons why. And I completely agree with her.
- Tornadic Activity Begins from Surrender, Dorothy. Tornadoes used to freak me out something awful when I was younger. We would visit family back in the midwest and I would be hoofing it to the basement at the first sign of a warning. But now, as an adult, I take comfort in that they are somewhat predictable. Earthquakes on the other hand…
- Driving crazy from flawed but authentic. YES. Kile and I complain about this to each other all the time. So many people act like the interstate is a game of Pole Position and forget that the people in the other cars are actual human beings with thoughts, feelings and families of their own.
- Mommy Dearest from Her Bad Mother. Dang. Once again, HBM cuts me to the quick with her bald-faced honesty. It’s heartbreaking. I hope for steadier waters ahead for her and a better relationship with her daughter.
- CULTURAL NORMS from Mighty Girl. Ha!! I didn’t ever live in San Francisco but I visited enough to know just what she’s talking about. Naked people just aren’t very shocking in that city, unless they’re all alone.
- The Scare from Suburban Turmoil. Oh man. I could totally see something like this happening with Liam, because he’s that sort of kid. Don’t feel bad about what might have happened, be glad you caught him in time instead. It happens to the best of us.
- How To Be A Popular Mommyblogger from A Mommy Story. Thanks for the tips. Heh. Seriously though, her advice here is steller because it’s TRUE. There’s nothing you can do to guarantee you’re going to be a popular blogger. But you can do things to help seal the deal.
- A great way to interact with the commenters on your… from Plain Jane Mom Blog. Oh my heck, another plugin! And, frankly, it’s an awesome plugin. I’ve been using it the last couple of days, allows me to reply to comments here in the comments section as well as email to the person I’m replying to at the SAME TIME. How cool is that??
- None of What You Hear and Half of What You See from Mihow - Home. I can relate, as we’ve had to change diapers in the trunk of a car many a time. Luckily, we have a minivan and with a rear hatch it doesn’t look as “bad”. But still. A flat surface is a flat surface. People shouldn’t jump to conclusions so quickly!
- Disaster Preparedness a Necessity from Sparks and Butterflies. I was captured by this post for obvious reasons. DIsaster preparedness is a hot topic around here right now, even though our earthquakes are decreasing somewhat. Thanks for the info, Michele!
Was I right? Awesome, no? I knew you’d think so. You and me, we think alike. And we can tell a good post when we see it. Now go forth and enjoy your weekend. I plan to go to the drive-in to see “Ironman” tonight (inaugural visit with THREE CHILDREN, pray for me!), what do you have planned?

Thanks so much for linking to that post! The state of California actually approached me to write it, and um - I kind of jump when the state asks me to do something. It’s good info, and I’m in the process of giving our family more preparedness as well.
