The obsession continues

Are you sick of hearing about cloth diapers? Well too bad. Because I think I may be completely obsessed with them. I spend a good portion of my online time these days cruising the big cloth diapering websites and trying to figure out what the different between PUL and wool covers are (don’t ask). I even took a small jump into the great ocean that is cloth diapering by purchasing three bumGenius one-size diapers (in pink!). I got them off of diapers.com because I found a $10 off coupon for new customers. And wow, they arrived the NEXT DAY. That’s pretty good, if you ask me.

They are adorable. They’re soft on the outside and cozy on the inside and the inserts are so absorbent I get toxic shock syndrome just looking at them. Somehow, I’m not sure how, they keep the moisture mostly away from the baby. It’s incredible. And they’re so easy to clean too. No, really! I just take the insert out when I change her diaper and toss it and the diaper in the laundry bag I have next to the changing table. Then, when I do laundry (which is often since I only have three so far), I just toss everything in the washer and run through the cycles (I’m doing a cold wash, a hot wash and a rinse). Then everything goes in the dryer. And that’s it.

Now, I imagine it’s different once the baby is older and is out of the newborn (and innocuous) poop stage. BUT, I plan to get a diaper sprayer for that. Hopefully sooner rather than later so that I can use cloth diapers on Liam too. I can’t do that now anyhow, since the only diapers I have are pink and Kile won’t let me put them on him (even though, being one-size, they will fit him). Killjoy. But so far, the poop is easy. Comes out simply in the wash without me having to do anything exciting.

As for wipes, I’m still using disposable (regular) wipes, but I plan to use cloth wipes once I make the full commitment and once I figure just what to do with them. Should I just make a solution and put it in a regular wipes container with the wipes? Or should I put the solution in a spray bottle and spray either the wipe (which, right now, are cheap baby washcloths) or the baby’s bottom or both? Decisions, decisions.

In the meantime, I hope to expand my diaper stash considerably whenever I can. I’m thinking about trying prefolds once I can find some decent covers to use with them (no way am I using vinyl pants). And I definitely want more bumGenius diapers. Because they are seriously adorable (and they work as well, if not better, than a disposable). And I have proof:

    Hi,
For wipes get a few packages of Gerbers cloth diapers and just wet them with warm water to wipe the baby’s bottom. They can be washed with the other diapers. Please don’t use anything cold to wipe the baby’s bottom. Imagine how THAT must feel!! I put the baby’s towel in the dryer briefly, too, before her bath, so she’s comfy when getting dried. Creature comforts are everything for our sweet dears.

I think your obsession is completely within reason. The only thing that I regret about Al going to daycare is that I couldn’t use cloth diapers consistently. It’s hard for this granola mom to keep on buying those landfill-cloggers, and I just couldn’t spring for the biodegradable ones. OK, thinking back, probably I could have bought those had I been truly committed, but I tend to be a half-stepper.

That Evie is one gorgeous girl. Have I said that already? Well, she is.

I totally forgot how HUGE those BG’s look on a little baby. So adorable!

Okay, here are my two cents regarding diaper sprayers and wipes: You really don’t NEED a diaper sprayer. Charlie make me convenient little poop cakes and tootsie rolls that I just let plop into the toilet. We do, however, sort of have a diaper sprayer. I’ve got one of those handheld shower sprayers that’s right beside the toilet. Works like a charm, and it definitely cheaper and more functional! Wipes. I use regular Gerber baby washcloths. I think I’ve got about thirty of them. I would not recommend saturating them and storing them. It’s like Heaven for mold spores. Instead, I use a squirt bottle and just squirt his butt. LOL But for BF poop, you could probably just squirt the rag. Don’t want to give poor Evie the shock of her life with that cold water!

Evie looks so cute in her pink diapers! Awwww! And they don’t look as bulky as I thought they would on a newborn.
