Yesterday was SUCH a Monday. Would it kill a Monday to sometimes maybe act like a Tuesday? Or (dare I mention it?) a Thursday? Apparently so, because yesterday the simple notion that it was, indeed, MONDAY clobbered me over the head repeatedly until I curled into a ball and cried uncle.
It started off with Liam (doesn’t it always?). I had just finished nursing Evie and she was dozing on the Boppy pillow on my lap. I looked down to the floor in front of me to see Liam sitting, holding a small bottle and surrounded by dozens of white… pills? I don’t even remember setting Evie down on the floor, but I do remember screaming, “What are you eating???” He was shoveling these things into his mouth as fast as he could manage. Turns out? It was teething tablets. And as I was trying to pick all the tablets up off the floor as fast as I could, he was trying to grab them and stuff them in his mouth as fast as he could. Best I can figure, he got maybe a half a bottle’s worth.
I did some quick googling and came to the conclusion that it’s highly unlikely he was going to OD on the things. But talk about giving me a heart attack. And his teeth sure didn’t hurt him one bit for the rest of the day.
Kile’s parents are coming today. I realized this as I was waking up this morning. For some reason I thought we had another day or two. Thing is: I don’t know what time to expect them. I suggested that Kile give them a call and ask, but I guess that’s expecting too much. He would rather wait for them to call and let us know what their plans are. However, they generally call when they’re about 30 minutes from our house. Do I need to tell you all about the status of Harry’s bathroom? Or the pile of clothes currently residing on the guest bed? How about the fact that Evie is having a weird day and is even more particular about being held than usual? Can I just go somewhere and hide now?
Yesterday (ah, blessed Monday), I was stepping over the gate between our kitchen and family room (it’s not a pass through type setup, so no door) with Evie in my arms when my foot caught on it and down I went. As is the case with mamas, my first instinct was to protect Evie. So I braced her in my arms and turned my body so I wouldn’t land on top of her. This resulted in me taking the full impact in my right knee. And LORD ALMIGHTY, it hurt. It hurt BAD. Harry was playing Mario Kart at the time and asked me, “Why are you still down on the floor?” Because I’m afraid I’m crippled for life. The fall startled Evie enough to make her cry, but she settled right away. Then she started to wonder why I wasn’t feeding her like she wanted. I finally mustered the courage to stand and went to change her diaper. My knee was a mess, I could tell. The shock of the impact could be felt down my entire leg. When I got situated back in my chair and got Evie nursing, I took a look. It wasn’t pretty. What was I saying about Mondays?
Liam got his first haircut last night. I know, believe it or not, he had enough hair to warrant a haircut. It was very long and almost curly in the back. Very cute, that’s to be sure. But it needed a cut. We all knew it. I was, of course, nursing Evie (do I do anything else these days?). But I couldn’t just entirely miss out on my boy’s first haircut, so I sent Harry in the kitchen to take a few pictures for me. Liam tolerated the process pretty well, given how squirmy he can be. He came out looking adorable, as usual, but less like a baby. Excuse me while I go cry now.
Speaking of Harry as a photographer, I have to share with you all a picture Harry took yesterday of a caterpillar in our backyard. He’s been keeping his eye on this caterpillar for the last week or so and it just so happens they’re studying caterpillars this week at school. According to him, the ones in their classroom aren’t nearly as big as this one so he wanted to take a picture and bring it into school to show the class. I thought he did a fabulous job. Perhaps he has a future as a nature photographer ahead of him!
Here’s hoping that the rest of the day is a lot kinder than yesterday was. I couldn’t take much more “excitement”.
