Reflections on the trip thus far

by Marilyn on June 11, 2008

Who has time for a coherent post these days? Not me, that’s for sure. Who knew all these kids needed so much ATTENTION?

  • Harry, my 8 year old (!!) child, can sing. Specifically, he can sing Bon Jovi’s “Dead or Alive”. Really well. I almost wish I’d gotten a picture of the expressions on everyone’s faces at Kile’s birthday dinner party last night. Instead, my mother in law got a picture of Harry, which is almost just as good.Rock Band
  • I’m almost perpetually hungry now. The first couple of days, I wasn’t. Then Kile’s emergency cropped up and hunger was far from my mind. Now? Lunchtime hits and I’m suddenly RAVENOUS. My in laws are going to kick me to the curb for eating them out of house and home any minute now.
  • Liam is a turd. He doesn’t really mean to be (yes, he does), but he is. He is into EVERYTHING. I’ve begun to live for naptimes. He is consistently good for a laugh though, such as last night when he picked up salad tongs and tried to use them as a stethoscope. (I guess you had to be there.)
  • The weather is definitely schizophrenic. We’ve seen cool/cold/wind/rain/hot and pleasant. What will we see next? NO ONE KNOWS.
  • Elko’s hospital is actually kind of adorable. Is that wrong? To think a hospital is adorable? It’s like a mini hospital. But it has (nearly) everything that a big one would have. And the food is actually a LOT better. We consider ourselves experts on hospital food and when Kile says that the food at the hospital here in Elko is better? Then it’s better. He was hungry Sunday night after having had a liquid diet dinner. Since he kept his meal down easily, the nurse rewarded him by going down to the cafeteria and bringing him back a fabulous turkey sandwich, homemade chicken and rice soup and other fabulous little extras. The sandwich? Was on an onion roll. I think Kile died and went to heaven. I don’t know about YOUR local hospital, but such service is unheard of in Reno. You’re hungry at 9pm at night? Tough. Sucks for you. GAH. (Of course, I never really ASKED, so maybe I’m wrong.)
  • There are a lot of dogs here. My in laws have a min pin named Spike and my niece who was living here prior to her wedding on Saturday has a rat terrier named Snickers. Add in Beetoe and Pup and it’s a zoo. Then, you go to my sister in laws house and they have about a bazillion more dogs over there. And cats. And fish.
  • I’m kind of not sure what day it is. Wednesday? Tuesday? HUH? Who said that? What? HELP.
  • Kile had a very nice birthday last night. Surgery or not, I think he was just happy to spend it with his family for a change.
  • Still do not know how long we’re staying here. He has his post-op appointment tomorrow afternoon so we’ll know more then. I hope.
  • I’m scared to pack up the van myself. Despite the fact that our luggage is heavy, Kile has a knack for fitting everything in there just so. GULP. Shoot, I can barely pack my bag, much less pack a whole van. I’m sure to leave behind a lot, perhaps even an entire child.
  • I need more alcohol. If only I wasn’t too tired in the evenings to drink it!
  • Harry is having a great time playing Xbox, drawing on the sidewalk with sidewalk chalk and riding his scooter. He can actually PLAY OUTDOORS here. Imagine that!
  • He also has an enormous hole in the bottom of his right shoe. I just noticed it yesterday. Why is this? It’s the foot he uses to BREAK while on his scooter. GAH. So now he needs new shoes. I think I’ll eat him instead.

Okay, I’m getting a little tired of all these bullets. I’m sure you are too. Soooo… I’m off.

You have loads going on!

As for us, our weather has been awesome because it keeps raining. There is snow falling in the mountains and it is going to frost tonight. I’m not for the cold cold, but I hate hot, hot weather. Bleck.

Loralees last blog post..Sideblog: I’m just glad to be nominated
