Jun 212008

I refuse to believe June is on the downswing ALREADY.  I know this has been an uber weird couple of weeks for me but come on.  I mean, before you know it, it’s going to be July.  And then all hell is going to break loose.  I prefer not to think about it right now.  So instead, I’m just going to share these lovely links with you.  Sound good?

  • This Has Happened To You Too, Right? from Wiping Up Snot.  I hate to say that YES, this has happened to me.  Well, not EXACTLY, but close enough to make me issue forth a guffaw as I read this post.  But this definitely sounds just like how I would respond to such a morning.  I guess I’m not as original as I thought I was, am I?
  • My 22-month-old toddler and I are having a slight disconnect from sweetney.com.  This post was actually from Whoorl, who guest posted while Sweetney is taking a little break.  It’s a fantastic post because I can identify with a cupboard full of various and sundry sippy cups and the frustration that comes when you realize that there is absolutely NO WAY you can teach a kid to drink from a straw.
  • One More Place to Dispel the “Obama is the AntiChrist” Emails from MOMocrats.  I hate to say it but I know people who would send those sorts of emails.  AS IN MORE THAN ONE.  I think it comes from living in Nevada.  Anyhow, this is a handy resource that I want to remember to use.  Plus, you know, this is funny.
  • A Garage to Grow Men In from Velveteen Mind.  This is an issue near and dear to my heart.  I’ve got boys, and one of them is old enough to want to stretch his wings and play outdoors.  But our backyard isn’t landscaped and it’s not always convenient to sit out front so I can watch him (let him out by himself?  are you kidding?).  I wonder if cleaning out the garage would help.
  • Typical Reaction to the Revelation That I Do Not Own a Cell Phone, By Year from defective yeti.  Ha!  Seriously though, I didn’t think there were many people who still existed without cell phones.  Still, I had to laugh at his description of people’s reactions.  Pretty accurate, actually.
  • It’s not party hopping. It’s going with your convictions. from MOMocrats.  Yep, another one from MOMocrats.  But I loved Jenn’s story about how she went from being a born-and-bred Republican to wanting to vote for Obama.  Interesting.
  • The Questions That Plague Me from Wiping Up Snot.  HA.  I loved the DHL argument.  That is SO something my husband and I would argue about.  I wonder if she ever remembered to show him the picture she took?
  • I Win! from The Anvil Tree.  Oh dear.  I laughed pretty hard while reading this.  You can all rest assured that you would never read a similar post on this here blog by me, because I do retain some prudish traits.  But it doesn’t stop me from laughing my arse off at posts like this.  (And, for the record, I cannot stand when the toilet is down.)
  • Blog Tip Sharing Project 4: StumbleUpon Primer from Playgroups are No Place For Children.  Thank you!  Finally, someone explains StumbleUpon in a way that I actually understand!  In fact, I rather enjoyed myself playing with the SU Toolbar earlier this week.  Thanks, Jennifer!  Can’t wait for your next installment!

And that, my friends, is all we’ve got this week.  Much more lighthearted than last week’s list, isn’t it?  I felt we needed some levity after that downer of a week.  And these posts this week were awesome with the laughs.  In this depressed economy (I’m depressed about it, aren’t you?), we need all the laughs we can get.  Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go feed my daughter before she has an aneurism.

  1. I’m so glad you liked the SU series! It took me FOREVER to figure out how it really worked and I knew that people were doing it all wrong (like I used to!)

The straws post by Whoorl cracked me up and was timely. Anjali just learned how to drink out of a straw yesterday. And yes, doing the “filling the end” method worked for me with both kids.

Not to sound dramatic, but I was starting to get stressed that Anju had not learned yet. BlogHer is looming and I do NOT pack sippy cups. I grab a handful of straws wherever we go. I was beginning to worry because Anjali need to Get With the Program or else I would need to leave her at the airport.
