Here is where my head blows up

by Marilyn on July 16, 2008

Okay, rememeber my “to-do” list from yesterday of all the things I have to do before we leave on Thursday morning?  Let’s see… what did I get done off of that list?

  • NOTHING!

Yep.  Not a DAMN thing off that list got done.  In my defense (I don’t really have one, cuz this is ALL my bad), I was expecting to do a bulk of the laundry and whatnot when Kile was home from work so there would be another adult downstairs to watch children while I did laundry upstairs.  But it turned out that last night was “Back to School” night at Harry’s school and then we ended up going to the drive-in with friends to see “Hellboy II” and didn’t get home until well after 11pm where we promplty fell into bed and passed out from exhaustion.

So yeah.  Today?  WILL SUCK.  Right now, I have a load of diaper laundry churning away in the machine.  But guess what?  Just found out this morning that Harry had a blue crayon hidden in his pockets and it got ALL OVER EVERYTHING.  Including the dryer.  So right now I’m trying to get the extra crayon out of the dryer by drying some old towels on high heat.  Then I’ll need to re-wash his clothes and try to get the crayon off of them (did I mention there were some new back to school clothes in there?).  Which make take several tries.  This is in addition to ALL THE OTHER LAUNDRY that I have to do.

So yeah.  I need to do all sorts of other things as well.  You name it, I gotta do it.  WE LEAVE IN THE MORNING, people.  Time, it is a-wastin’ and I really do feel as if my head might just spontaneously pop off my shoulders and roll around on the floor some before it just totally explodes into a billion pieces.

Ok. BTDT. Don’t freak about doing ALL the laundry. What do you NEED to do in the way of laundry? Count out the number of outfits and set them up (don’t forget socks and under things and sleepwear) If that means that, for once, you wash darks with colors in cold, then so be it. Make a big pile of the dirty clothes that you want to pack and just wash those. This is crunch time.

If you want my travel packing list, I’d be happy to send it to you. It surely won’t have everything you need, but it might help to double check basics for you (I even have my “baby” lists)

As for the crayon, according to Crayola’s website: To remove crayon stains from a dryer drum, spray a soft cloth with WD-40 and wipe the drum. Next, remove any WD-40 residue by washing the dryer drum with warm soapy water. Then run a load of dry rags through a regular drying cycle. (be careful if you have gas, as WD-40 is flammable)

Here’s another suggestion I found: Use generic Orange Clean, lightly mist the drum then use a Brillo pad. Provides enough grit but does not scratch. Use a warm wet cloth to wipe as you go, start from back to front. Then toss in a wet towel with a little bleach on it.

I personally keep Goo Gone (it’s orange oil based) on hand for these things and would use it.

And above all, take 15 minutes and make a detailed list of what needs to be done. One for packing, one for errands, one master list of what order things need to happen in.

You can make it! :)

Meant to add. While Harry’s crayon clothes SUCKS, that can be something you work on AFTER the clothes for packing are washed or after you get back (can’t get any worse, eh?) Need to focus on the things that MUST happen soonest. Also, when picking clothes for the trip, it’s ok if you don’t get the variety of colors for the kids and Kyle. Work their color choices into what you need for your convention. If that means the kids wear all bright colors (for fewer loads) or all dark colors for a few days, so be it.

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser for the dryer drum. Non-flammable, works like a charm. Also, there’s a stain remover just for crayon, in the laundry section, little bottle. Try Wal-Mart or the drugstore.

Too bad puffy paint’s not in fashion anymore. ;-)

Oh, nothing sucks more than somebody leaving something in the laundry that will stain the rest of the laundry!! I’m sorry. I have felt that misery before with a red pen left in Paul’s uniform. Also one of those 4 colored pens left in my sister’s brand new WHITE winter jacket.
