I’m so not ready for this

by Marilyn on August 7, 2008

What is with these children thinking they can just go ahead and grow up right under my nose?  Frankly, I’m getting tired of it.  Every time I turn around, someone is having a birthday or surpassing some milestone or something and I’m going to start feeling Winnie the Pooh here soon.  You know, like how Christopher Robin grew up and outgrew him?  Isn’t that how the story went?  ANYHOW.

So here’s Evie doing something that I’m SURE she’s far too young for but that her pediatrician actually said was a good idea to introduce: eating rice cereal.

First Cereal
She’s not quite sure what we’re trying to accomplish here

Not so sure about this
Okay, that was weird.

Another Bite
A little more interested now…

She likes it!
Hey, that isn’t half bad!

So eating rice cereal has proved to be a sucess, so far.  Of course, we haven’t been at all consistant about feeding it to her.  OOPS.  Doesn’t help that I’m not all that excited to be getting into this particular stage.  But it is something we need to start making more time for.

In the meantime, I’ll be over in the corner rocking and sucking my thumb.  Until the little men in the white coats show up, that is.

When we started the Bean on rice cereal we did it with the bottle. We just mixed a couple of spoonfuls into his formula or milk and used a needle to make the nipple hole a little bigger. Made it seem a little less like feeding him big kids food. Just a thought.

Oh so cute! I wish there had been all this internet stuff when my son was little (’92). I remember feeding him his first stuff at 4 mos old! He didn’t like it much, so we waited until six months and that worked out great. He was more than happy to keep nursing, and he didn’t quit until I was well into my pregnancy with my daughter. Thought we’d be doing the tandem thing, but nope. The the girl nursed until three. Miss those days!

What a cute video!!! That’s just precious

Evie is so stinkin’ cute! I’m glad you shared her eating experience. I documneted Miss Melanies first spoonfuls with a video camera in one hand and my digital camera in the other. How precious!

She is adorable! The baby food stage was never my favorite either. I prefer the “I can feed myself” table food stage!

I am delurking to say Evie is so cute–love the last picture where she has finally decided to “like” the rice cereal. She looks proud of herself, too!

My baby is seven and it has been a while since I had to feed any one with a spoon.
More like take it away before he starts using it as a lightsaber!
Enjoy each milestone and take lots of pictures so you can remember the fun of each and every stage of growth. Being a parent will always be a bittersweet thing,
as your kids move and grow towards independance. I will allow myself time to cry
when my nest is finally empty…but I will be proud too!
