Political Break

by Marilyn on September 5, 2008

I’m thinking… I’m going to tone down the political talk around here for a while.  Not that I’ve done a lot, particularly here on the blog, but I am starting to see where politics can easily take over my life and I gotta nip that in the bud while I still can.  We’ve got two whole months left in this election and while I can’t promise I won’t return to politics when the election rolls around, I think it’s better if I turned to other topics in the meantime.

Twitter, especially, is a political snark enabler for me.  It’s just so easy to type out the things we say to one another when watching speeches and whatnot on television.  Now, my intention has never been to hurt anyone’s feelings.  Of course not!  I’ve said before that I know an awful lot of Republicans.  My in laws are almost all Republican.  I’m rather used to coexisting peacefully with people who have other political beliefs than myself.  And how best do I accomplish this?  I keep my thoughts to myself.

So that’s what I’m going to do.  Keep my thoughts to myself.

I respect my Republican friends and I hope they respect me back.  I don’t want some of my friends to feel they need to avoid my blog in the next couple of months and I don’t want to feel like I have to avoid theirs.  So yeah.  Nipping it in the bud.

Let’s all play nice, okay?  After all, the important thing is still true: At least we’re getting a new President either way.

You are a better woman than I. The snark just escapes me before I can catch it. I don’t even feel it coming. I swear, I’m a snark volcano. I think it might be genetic.

Ha! It’s your blog, tell it like it is! I say this because we’re both in the same mindset politically thinking. If you were a big R, I might tell you it’s probably a good thing you keep your opinions to yourself. See, I’m an enabler.

Well, I for one appreciate it. I’m not a R or a D. I gave up political affiliations several years ago. At the moment I’m undecided. But I plan to make my decision not based on blogs or a speech here or there.. and I know that snarky comments on both sides will probably just irritate me. I’m TIRED of partisan comments of all kinds. I’ve already removed a few blogs from my rolls until at least the New Year to avoid it. But that’s just me. It is your blog and you can say whatever you want. Go you! I’m just so not wanting to read or hear it. I can’t wait for January.

It’s one thing to do it on your blog… but sometimes all the tweets just bug me. I’ve actually had to unfollow a couple of people because of excessive use of the F word when referring to McCain/Palin.

I’m a registered Democrat, but I never follow politics. And so here I am, virtually a blank slate doing her best to listen to both sides and make the most informed decision I can… and it’s hard. Because everyone wants to praise Obama/Biden and trash talk McCain/Palin.

All the trash talk makes me sick. Snark about hair and wardrobe is one thing and I can find lots of humor watching The Daily Show and The Colbert Report… but those who just want to be foul and trashy are the ones who make me mad.

For the record, I’m still following you on Twitter. You are quite well behaved compared to many. Either I’m following way too many Liberal Democrats, or my Republican friends are just afraid to speak up. (except for Rhi)
