Is anyone else like me? I have a hard time judging the volume of something. For instance, if we fix a lot of stew for dinner and have lots of leftovers, I never know exactly what size container to put them in so I can reheat it the next day for lunch.
The same goes for my children. This mostly applies as they’re babies. For some reason, I think I always imagine they’re smaller than they actually are (the opposite is true for Liam, for some reason. Probably because he’s so puny). We’ve been really lucky that we hadn’t had to buy a lot of clothes for our kids. Thanks to friends and generous family, we’ve had lots of hand-me-downs. This is especially true for Liam as I think I’ve only had to buy him like two outfits in his entire life. (Seriously, you should see the boxes and boxes of clothes my fabulous sister sent us.)
Evie, on the other hand, has needed more clothes (and no, not just because she’s a girl) (though that would be a handy “excuse” wouldn’t it?). She has lots of adorable dresses but not a lot of sleepers in her size. When we were at Walmart the other night, I picked up a fuzzy sleeper in the 6-9 month size. It looked huge but I knew that she was growing out of 3-6 month clothes at home so I got it. Even this morning, as I was getting ready to put it on her, it looked huge. And then…
Then I put it on her and… gosh. It fits just fine. A little baggy in spots but I imagine it’s SUPPOSED to be that way. See, I have this problem where I don’t put clothes on my kids until they’re already growing out of them (or worse, they don’t even fit anymore!). I don’t know what my problem is. Isn’t it better to put something on that’s a little big rather than a little too small? I’ll lovingly stroke an outfit that I think Evie is months away from being able to wear and by the time I try to put it on her, she’ll practically be grown out of it.
I need help.
As you can see, it’s a good thing that I put the new sleeper on her right away and ignored the voice in my head that said it was going to be too big. And not only does it fit just right, it’s cute as hell.
