Is anyone else like me? I have a hard time judging the volume of something. For instance, if we fix a lot of stew for dinner and have lots of leftovers, I never know exactly what size container to put them in so I can reheat it the next day for lunch.
The same goes for my children. This mostly applies as they’re babies. For some reason, I think I always imagine they’re smaller than they actually are (the opposite is true for Liam, for some reason. Probably because he’s so puny). We’ve been really lucky that we hadn’t had to buy a lot of clothes for our kids. Thanks to friends and generous family, we’ve had lots of hand-me-downs. This is especially true for Liam as I think I’ve only had to buy him like two outfits in his entire life. (Seriously, you should see the boxes and boxes of clothes my fabulous sister sent us.)
Evie, on the other hand, has needed more clothes (and no, not just because she’s a girl) (though that would be a handy “excuse” wouldn’t it?). She has lots of adorable dresses but not a lot of sleepers in her size. When we were at Walmart the other night, I picked up a fuzzy sleeper in the 6-9 month size. It looked huge but I knew that she was growing out of 3-6 month clothes at home so I got it. Even this morning, as I was getting ready to put it on her, it looked huge. And then…
Then I put it on her and… gosh. It fits just fine. A little baggy in spots but I imagine it’s SUPPOSED to be that way. See, I have this problem where I don’t put clothes on my kids until they’re already growing out of them (or worse, they don’t even fit anymore!). I don’t know what my problem is. Isn’t it better to put something on that’s a little big rather than a little too small? I’ll lovingly stroke an outfit that I think Evie is months away from being able to wear and by the time I try to put it on her, she’ll practically be grown out of it.
I need help.
As you can see, it’s a good thing that I put the new sleeper on her right away and ignored the voice in my head that said it was going to be too big. And not only does it fit just right, it’s cute as hell.

I dare you to disagree with that statement…

I have this problem all the time. It took me YEARS to be able to even size MYSELF (I see myself as bigger than I am.)
And my eyes are always bigger than my stomach even though it has been almost 14 years since my gastric bypass. Sigh.

I have the same problem. My son is outgrowing his clothes pretty fast. He is just turning 6 months in two weeks and has been in 6-9 month clothes since 5 months. I don’t know when I am supposed to move him up a size, I constantly fear that he is going to outgrow the clothes if I don’t put him in them, but he still has some 0-3 and 3-6 month shirts that fit just fine. I also have the problem that his clothes are so cute I don’t want him to wear them yet or worry if it is the right time as then it won’t be new anymore.. which is crazy. I know.

I had the same problem. I always thought my kids were bigger than they were. For years they both walked around like all their news clothes were hand me downs.
The picture of Evie? Absolutely delicious! Mmm, I can just smell that sweet baby head from here.

I am happy to know that at least I am not alone
I struggle with this too. My son is so lanky (oh, to have that problem!) and so I think he is smaller than he is. I was helping him get dressed this morning and have noticed his uniform shorts already look small. Of course, we can thank the amazing fabric of cotton for shrinking up like that. GRRR
Cutest darn picture too!

Yeah, definitely cute!! But more like cute as heaven… what an angel. We’re having another girl in late Dec/early Jan. We cloth diaper, so let me know if you sell any of your “stash”:) Plus, you need to post pictures of all your cute diapers. If you do it, I will, too!!

Awwwww… no disagreeing here!
I just found some stuff I never put on Gabe today. It got “lost” in a tote (go figure) and we must’ve received it when he was small, because I pulled it out and it doesn’t fit. It’s a 6-9 monther and he’s almost a year and wearing 12 month stuff.
I hate that… it was a cute outfit, too.

I’m wondering if this size thing is a gender issue. Because I can never figure out what size container to put the leftovers in, either. I always pick one that’s way too big and Paul routinely picks the size that fits exactly right. It’s kind of annoying.
As for clothes, thankfully, for the most part, Elizabeth has fit the size for her age. She has had some things that I either shrunk in the wash, or were brands that run small. But thank the stars I haven’t had to figure out what size she is too often or I’d forever be buying stuff that was too small or way too big.
