I am a lucky, lucky girl. I hear so many moms out there complain about their mother-in-laws, they have such shaky relationships. And sometimes it’s downright hostile. But I lucked out. My mother-in-law is downright fabulous. I’ve always gotten along great with my in-laws. We don’t always agree on everything (see: politics), but for the most part, our views are very similar. We can hang out together and get along very easily. And my mother-in-law, well, she just rocks. Case in point:
- She turned a bunch of prefold diapers I had into prefitteds. That probably doesn’t mean anything to those of you who don’t cloth diaper but to me? A big deal.
- She also helped me by turning some long sleeved onesies into t-shirts and sewing up a pair of baby legwarmers I was working on with her sewing machine.
- She went to see “Twilight” with me last night, even though my husband didn’t want to, and even though she had no idea what the books were about or anything. And she liked it!
- She cut my hair for me today. She fixed the front layers so it’ll grow in a lot nicer. And, dare I say it? It looks cute. WOW. There’s a first (at least in the last six months).
- She taught me how to knit! Well, okay, I’m still learning. But I learned how to cast on and do a garter stitch today. Hopefully I’ll remember it all. I still have a lot to learn but it’s a good start.
- We went to Walmart this evening to get some dinner fixin’s and while there, she had me pick out a new watch as my birthday present (just a little over two weeks from now!). I haven’t had a working watch in months and the one I picked out is just beautiful. It’s a darkish, burnished brown color and I can’t stop looking at it, it’s so pretty. Oh yeah, and it tells time. Bonus!

Lucky vous. My original MIL was evil and hated me to no end. She’s dead now. Meh.
My new MIL is very sweet, but she doesn’t often leave the house. At least she likes me.
You are lucky, hon!

Well, I used to be able to say that I love my MIL. And then I had Elizabeth. And that brought out the crazy/passive-aggressive side of her. Yeah… the whole “if you were on the titanic and your husband and baby were in the water and you were in a life boat, you need to get your husband on the boat first” thing… Okay. I’m stopping before I get going cuz WOO!! She’s crazy.
