It’s that time again. Time to hunt down a new car seat. It feels like we just did this last month or something but my blog archives tell me it was more like two years ago. Huh. How about that.
So even though Evie’s carseat is okay to 30 pounds, she is getting awful close to a year old and carting around one year olds in those bucket car seats goes against my own personal philosophy. And tax return time is coming up and that’s as good a time as any to be getting carseats. Especially when your tastes are as extravagant as ours. Seriously, once you go Britax, there’s no going back. All other carseats are shit, comparatively. And I’m not one of those safety guru/nazi sorts either. They’re just really good carseats.
The difference this time is we have two options to choose from. We could get another Boulevard for Evie (and could potentially get one in adorable and obnoxious girly colors to boot!) and then we would have two Boulevards. Wee! OR we could get a Frontier
which is Britax’s kick-ass new toddler carseat/booster/awesomeness. And it’s cheaper too! Thing is, we could POTENTIALLY find the Boulevard on sale somewhere. And the Frontier has this nasty little habit of being virtually sold out everywhere we look. And if we got the Frontier then Evie would inherit Liam’s Boulevard. And theoretically we could buy a cover for it in the adorable and obnoxious girly colors.
Liam is rooting for the Frontier. It has cupholders!
Of course, this will all depend on whether or not I can find a Boulevard on sale and whether or not any place has Frontier’s in stock when it comes time to buy. We’re leaning towards the Frontier since we know it would last for Liam (and potentially Evie but considering Liam’s stature probably not) until the end of TIME. Or, you know, at least until he’s in high school.
Gratuituous shot of Liam driving the van without pants on, just cuz I could.

Wow. I’ve never spent that much on a carseat IN MY LIFE. Wow. That’s a lot. I mean, if you love it, then great, but DAYUM! That’s a lot for a carseat.
First let me say, the picture of liam driving with no pants on is just too cute!!!
Second, I totally understand the Britax love girlfriend. I had to have one, and S is always asking to borrow my car because the carseat is better, heh. (her car has some safety 1st model). My opinion… I’d go Marathon. Same weight limits as the Boulevard but cheaper (albeit less side impact protection). Frontier seems to be getting less than rave reviews for whatever reason, so I’d give Britax some time to work out the kinks on that one. Amazon has totally cute girly marathons for $199 right now which isn’t bad.
oooh, check out albeebaby.com too, some girly marathon patterns are $179 & $189. I guess it’s Britax sale time, which is usually only twice a year. Don’t know how long the prices are good for, usually not long though!
(GASP, CHOKE, COUGH) WHAT?!?!?!!! CAR SEATS COST $200-$300?!??!?
Maybe I’d rather just babysit my friends kids, rather than have my own. I’m gonna have to think about that one a bit.
I don’t remember what kind of car seat we got for Elizabeth. I do remember Paul shut me down when I wanted to get the girlie colors. Because we only have one car seat, so we’re stuck transferring it every time we need to use Paul’s car for something. And heaven forbid, a girlie car seat would end up in his manly SUV. I don’t think we got a Britax… but we did get cup holders. And the side arms fold up and down, which makes getting Elizabeth in and out of it pretty easy. But now I’m curious so I’m going to have to go into my freezing cold garage and look to see what kind of seat we got her. Darn it!
Wow car seats have sure come a long way since my kidlets were that little. Geez, they’re like baby Cadillacs, LOL. I wish MY car seat were that luxurious!
Hey Marilyn, just a little observation – I used to work at The Right Start (a baby stuff store) and we were given extensive training on fitting car seats to specific cars (they don’t all fit every car!) and fitting the car seat to the child. One of the things we were taught was that for utmost safety the little thing that keeps the straps together in the front should be no higher than the child’s armpits. In the picture Liam’s is almost up to his neck and that could be potentially harmful in a crash. But so would a baby driving
I think you have a nice blackmail picture there for when he is a teenager LOL. I have one of Brendan naked on a scooter…teehee, evil mommy that I am.
Anyhoo, as for car seats, I have no idea of these brands you speak of, but my thoughts are, if you can afford it buy the best you can. Why not? It’s your babies you are protecting, eh?
Oh and PS…I’ll be emailing you some snow…our area got dumped on last night with the most prettiest bunch of powder you have ever seen. And yay, for once there isn’t ice underneath it.
