everyone has an opinion

It erases EVERYTHING

September14

Plainly put, if you have kids, you need to have a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.  Case in point: our newly-minted two year old boy has discovered the fine art of pilfering pencils from his older brother and using them to draw on the walls.  For whatever reason, he really enjoys drawing on the front door.  My first reaction when I saw the scribbles was to grab a wet paper towel or perhaps a damp sponge.  My husband, bless his soul, had the forethought to grab the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.  Seconds later, the doodles were a thing of history.  You couldn’t even tell the door had been doodled on in the first place (dangit, I should have gotten pictures).

Doodled-on doors are just one of the many projects this product can easily tackle.  I’ve used this to spiff up our stairway banister more times than I can count.  It makes quick work of our microwave which can go from clean to catastrophic faster than you can say “microwave mac n’ cheese”.  And that nasty little soap scum ring that you get in your tub after you’ve given your filthy children a bath (they get SO filthy in the summer, it boggles my mind) is no match for the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.  Seriously, you barely even have to scrub at it.  And no harsh cleaning products are needed.  Just add water to the Eraser and wipe the ring and voila!  All clean.

And one of my favorite new uses for the Magic Eraser: does anyone else get a filthy stove hood?  Ours collects dust and grease like a magnet and trying to wipe it clean with a sponge just makes a sticky, icky mess.  But the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser just scoffs at the goop and wipes it clean.  That was all it took for me to want to try it on our stovetop which has admittedly gone without a good wiping down in a few days.  And what do you know!  Cleaning the cooked on mess was a breeze.

Now, none of this is going to make me like cleaning any more than I already do (which I don’t).  But cleaning is a necessesary evil and if you’ve gotta do it, you might as well make it as easy as possible, right?  Luckily, I’ve got Mr. Clean and his fabulous Magic Eraser on my side.

Mr. Clean and Swiffer with Febreze Freshness

March31

You’ve seen the commercials, I’m assuming. Maybe a print ad or two in the magazine? If not, then let me catch you up: Mr. Clean and Swiffer have partnered with Febreze to create a line of products hoping to put some light-scented freshness back into housecleaning. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know what Febreze is. They make those wonderful “fabric refreshers” that you spray on your carpet and furniture to give it a “boost”, especially when unexpected visitors are standing on your porch and your living room smells like a foot. They’ve expanded their product line since, of course, and now offer everything from laundry detergents to air fresheners to candles. So I guess it was only a matter of time before they expanded to cleaning products. And truly, it’s rather genius to partner up with a pre-existing and trusted cleaning brand to make a new Super Product.

I was sent a box of this Super Product goodness last month. And anyone who knows me, knows that I’m a fairly poor housecleaner. Plainly put? I don’t like to clean. I will do pretty much whatever I can to get out of it, actually. I’m not one of those people who gets satisfaction from watching something “come clean”. I actually get a lot more satisfaction from having someone else clean it for me. It’s a shame I don’t make enough to afford housecleaners, isn’t it? Still, even though I’m certain I’m allergic to mopping, I was excited to see this package full of squeaky-clean goodness.

Mr. Clean Multi-Surface Cleaner with Febreze FreshnessThe box arrived at just right time too since our third and final child was due to arrive within weeks and we had a lot of cleaning to get done. We had a nice sampling; Swiffer Dusters with Febreze, Mr. Clean Magic Erasers with Febreze and Mr. Clean Multi-Surface Cleaners with Febreze. I grabbed out the Dusters first, as there was a good coating on the television screen that had been driving me nuts (hey, it’s easily the surface that gets looked at the most and a dusty TV screen is a sad thing). And not only did they work well (easy to use tool and pleasant smell afterward), but I found I couldn’t put the thing down until I had the Duster so full of dust that it could not possibly hold anymore. Let’s just say, I did a lot of dusting that afternoon. Lucky for the Duster, my living room had a lot of dust to give up. I tackled the ceiling fan next, since that is something that also aggravates me, but I’m always nervous to clean because I don’t want giant clumps of dust (getting an image of my home yet?) to fall all over the place. Never fear, the Duster caught all the dust easily and I shook out the larger particles in the trash when needed. Before I knew it, a clean ceiling fan! And a clean entertainment center, shelving, china cabinet, coffee table… you get the picture. And my living room smelled nice (and not like a foot)! That was a pretty nice bonus.

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser with Febreze FreshnessMy husband tried out the other two products, the Mr. Clean Multi-Surface Cleaner and Magic Eraser. He tackled our 8 year old son’s bathroom with them. I don’t think I can properly convey to you the state of my son’s bathroom, but suffice it to say that I am loathe to even step in there, much less clean it. My husband? He is a saint. He loved the Magic Eraser. He loaded it with a little water and a few squeezes later, he had a generous and pleasant smelling lather with which to tackle the unspeakable grime that was collecting in the tub and sink. (I’m not even going to talk about the toilet.) The Multi-Surface spray worked great on the counter and mirror and toilet surrounds. And do I have to mention the lovely smell? I could actually walk into the room after my husband finished with it, take a deep breath, and not want to pass out. In fact, it smelled inviting. This made me a VERY happy camper.

I think we’re going to get a lot of use out of this stuff. Okay, well maybe not ME, but whoever does end up cleaning this house surely will. If you’re interested in these products and want some money-saving coupons to print out, check these sites out. Your nose will thank you for it!
