I’ve long been a fan of the Dove products. Back when I was an obsessive coupon clipper, I would horde coupons for Dove shampoo and conditioner like they were going out of style. I loved how these products would make my hair feel, smell, behave… you name it.
But I stopped buying them because I stopped clipping coupons and the Dove products were more expensive than most of the other brands on the shelves. Now, I’m probably revealing just HOW cheap I can be by admitting that the shampoo and conditioner were maybe $1.00 more expensive than, say, Herbal Essences or Sunsilk. But whatever. We should all already know how cheap I am and just get over it.
This last month, though, I threw the checkbook to the wind and picked up a bottle each of Dove’s new Daily Moisture Therapy line. My hair tends to be a little on the dry side and as such, I only wash it every other day. Washing it more often seems to make it oilier and grosser. It’s neither thin nor especially thick but tends to look a little dull. And then there’s the flyaways. I’ve got all those tiny little short hairs at the top of my head that tend to form a little cloud. I think you all must know what I’m talking about. It’s annoying, to say the least.
Anyhow, the point is, yesterday I took a shower and swapped out the old, used-up bottles of Herbal Essences and put the new Dove shampoo and conditioner on the shelf. As I washed my hair, the way Amalah recommends (scrub the scalp and roots with shampoo, coat the ends with conditioner and never the twain shall meet), I delighted in the familiar and fabulous fragrance of the Dove products. Oh perfume, how I missed thee. My hair felt especially silky as I rinsed the conditioner out but I didn’t give it much thought as I had to hop out of the shower, get dressed and get back to tending the newborn who demands to be attached to me 24/7.
Fast forward to today, when I took my straightening iron to my bangs and ends, looking to smooth my ‘do out into my “I care what I look like today” hairstyle and I noticed that easier than usual to tame the strands. There wasn’t much straightening that I needed to do, actually. The strands smoothed out easily and fell into line at the barest application of heat. “Hmm, I’m having a good hair day!” I thought. Oh, naive me.
It wasn’t until later on today that I realized why my hair was behaving so wonderfully. It was the Dove Daily Moisture Therapy. Even now, at the end of the (very long) day, my hair is silky, soft, smooth and altogether happy. Oh Dove, why did I forsake you all this time? What a fool I’ve been! Never again. Save for the occasional “break” (Amalah does say that switching out shampoo and conditioner before switching back does improve effectiveness over time), I shall never quit you again. This hair is far too fabulous to give up for a mere dollar or two savings each month.
So if you too are looking for the best hair you’ve ever had, look no further. Get thee to the nearest Walmart and get yourself some Dove Daily Moisture Therapy shampoo and conditioner. You can thank me later.
