Something other than cloth diapers

by Marilyn on May 6, 2008

I cannot seem to help myself with this baby.  I see something cute and I MUST HAVE IT.  Such was the case with these little cuties.  I defy you to tell me those aren’t cute.  I’ve loved the idea of these baby leggings ever since I first saw them a couple years ago, but the “name brand” was a little pricier than I was hoping to find late last week.  I was already on Etsy drooling over all the beautiful things and thought to look up baby legwarmers and lo and behold, I found this fabulous shop.  The price was VERY right, the designs were VERY cute… so I was sold.  Then, yesterday, my Crawler Cover arrived.  I was like a kid at Christmas.  And who wouldn’t be with packaging like this?

Crawler Covers

That’s frickin’ adorable, is what that is.  But even more adorable?  Is how these little cuties looked on my little cutie.

Way too cute right?  I KNOW.  And now I’m just biding my time until I can get more.  If I bought them now I think Kile might just set me out with the garbage on Garbage Day (note to self: Garbage Day is tomorrow, do not forget this time!).  But all in good time.  The leggings WILL be mine!

Covered legs
Who wouldn’t want to eat legs encased in such attractive wrapping?

Toes peeking out
I think they make her toes look all the more delectable.

Oh come on, like you didn’t think I wouldn’t sneak in a picture of her cloth diapers SOMEHOW.

What I have goofy love for right now

by Marilyn on May 5, 2008

Another week already? Who is in charge of making these weekends so danged short, anyhow? In the hopes of spreading some happy, happy, joy, joy around on an otherwise bummer Monday, I’m going to list out some things that I am getting an unreasonable amount of enjoyment from right now (and I won’t promise that one of those things won’t be my new diapers). I’m hoping that maybe I’ll mention something that you will want to discover and then YOU will find joy and then my life will be complete. That’s not too much to ask of a Monday afternoon, is it?

  • Owen Wilson. I’ve always enjoyed him, and since I haven’t seen “Drillbit Taylor”, I feel I can say that I haven’t see him in anything where I haven’t enjoyed his character immensely. Often, it’s his character that causes me to enjoy an otherwise blah movie. We subscribed to HBO and Cinemax a couple months ago so I’ve been fortunate enough to see Owen Wilson pretty much whenever I want in either “Night at the Museum” or in “You, Me and Dupree”. In the former, he has a teeny weeny part, playing a teeny weeny western fella, Jedediah. And he’s funny as hell.

Jedadiah: I’m gonna shoot you in your dang eye. In your dadgum eye.
    [gun clicks empty]
Larry: Yeah. Keep shootin’. Nothing’s gonna happen.
Jedadiah: Now you know my shame. Jedadiah’s impotent rage. His guns don’t fire. Take me away.

See what I mean? Hmm. Maybe you had to be there. But STILL. “You, Me and Dupree” was, for me at least, surprisingly hilarious. I completely adored his character in this movie. I can watch this movie whenever it pops up and have even DVR’d it so that I can watch it even after it falls of of OnDemand. It brings me irrational amounts of joy. And I know it’s all because of Owen Wilson.

  • Yes, the cloth diapers. Shut up, I can’t help it. I’m working on a plan that would hopefully give me a good outlet for discussing this to my heart’s content without boring the rest of you to tears. I read your lack of enthusiasm loud and clear (plus, the poll count so far registers overwhelmingly in the “You are insane” category). But I get such a little high out of putting her in these diapers. And I can spend hours looking at the various websites out there. And even washing the darn things has made me feel joy. I hope the feeling continues, because I actually ordered some prefolds and covers last night. I’m committed now!
  • This face right here. I could stare at her all day long. I find myself so excited for the coming months and watching her grow and discover and develop her own look.
  • All of you guys. Yes, you. Even you over there in the corner. I see you. I love everyone who comes to this blog and reads what I write (even stupid, silly, pointless posts like this one).  You guys make this whole blogging gig (which is already pretty fabulous in and of itself) so rewarding.  I’m consistently amazed that anyone even reads this blog and waking up to find out that, yes, people DO read it, well… that just makes me so happy.  I love all you guys.  I hope, in the months ahead, to be able to show you guys just HOW MUCH.  Stay tuned.  And hold me to it!

Okay, that’s enough mushy stuff for now.  I’m sure there’s a load of laundry around here somewhere that’s calling my name.

The obsession continues

by Marilyn on May 4, 2008

Are you sick of hearing about cloth diapers? Well too bad. Because I think I may be completely obsessed with them. I spend a good portion of my online time these days cruising the big cloth diapering websites and trying to figure out what the different between PUL and wool covers are (don’t ask). I even took a small jump into the great ocean that is cloth diapering by purchasing three bumGenius one-size diapers (in pink!). I got them off of diapers.com because I found a $10 off coupon for new customers. And wow, they arrived the NEXT DAY. That’s pretty good, if you ask me.

They are adorable. They’re soft on the outside and cozy on the inside and the inserts are so absorbent I get toxic shock syndrome just looking at them. Somehow, I’m not sure how, they keep the moisture mostly away from the baby. It’s incredible. And they’re so easy to clean too. No, really! I just take the insert out when I change her diaper and toss it and the diaper in the laundry bag I have next to the changing table. Then, when I do laundry (which is often since I only have three so far), I just toss everything in the washer and run through the cycles (I’m doing a cold wash, a hot wash and a rinse). Then everything goes in the dryer. And that’s it.

Now, I imagine it’s different once the baby is older and is out of the newborn (and innocuous) poop stage. BUT, I plan to get a diaper sprayer for that. Hopefully sooner rather than later so that I can use cloth diapers on Liam too. I can’t do that now anyhow, since the only diapers I have are pink and Kile won’t let me put them on him (even though, being one-size, they will fit him). Killjoy. But so far, the poop is easy. Comes out simply in the wash without me having to do anything exciting.

As for wipes, I’m still using disposable (regular) wipes, but I plan to use cloth wipes once I make the full commitment and once I figure just what to do with them. Should I just make a solution and put it in a regular wipes container with the wipes? Or should I put the solution in a spray bottle and spray either the wipe (which, right now, are cheap baby washcloths) or the baby’s bottom or both? Decisions, decisions.

In the meantime, I hope to expand my diaper stash considerably whenever I can. I’m thinking about trying prefolds once I can find some decent covers to use with them (no way am I using vinyl pants). And I definitely want more bumGenius diapers. Because they are seriously adorable (and they work as well, if not better, than a disposable). And I have proof:

See what I mean?

Why do I keep thinking it’s a Friday?

by Marilyn on April 30, 2008

Wishful thinking, that’s why. No less than five times so far this morning I’ve had to remind myself it’s only Wednesday. Which is better than it being Tuesday or (gah) Monday, but STILL. I’ve even hoped on several occasions that it was Thursday, because then at least I would have “Lost” and “The Office” and “30 Rock” to look forward to. Bummer.

The earthquakes seem to be (knock on wood) slowly diminishing. Of course, it’s not rumbling right under my feet like the poor people who live over in that area, so I only feel things in the high 3’s on up. And we haven’t had one of those since Monday morning. What with the fires we’ve been having in the area the last couple of days, I feel like Reno is being beset by plagues or something. The end is nigh! Repent!

I’ve become totally obsessed with cloth diapers. I know no one is impressed. Shoot, no wonder my comments have diminished lately… all I talk about is earthquakes and cloth diapers. Snore fest! But I’m just telling you what’s on my mind. I’ve decided I’d like to get several of the bumGenius one-size diapers to try out. They sound just about perfect for a newbie like me. Expensive, yes. I found a good coupon online though, and think I’ll use that. But now I’m also starting to think of other accessories it’d be nice to have like a diaper pail liner, some cloth wipes, extra inserts and a diaper sprayer. This is going to be spendy, yo. Come on, economic stimulus check!

Anywho.  I wish I had some thing more exciting to share with you all, but I don’t.  It’s hard to have anything to talk about when you’ve got a tick-leech attached to your person around the clock.  I love that tick-leech, mind you, but SHEESH.
