Lost

Smatterings

I know this means I’m Officially Lame, but I’m watching Disney’s “Meet the Robinsons” with Liam and I’m finding myself laughing.  A lot.  This is a cute, funny movie!  Very clever.  Hey, if it’s not brain-melting drivel like “Oswald” (my old nemesis), and it makes my kids happy, then I pretty much want to marry it and have it’s babies.

Evie slept in her crib on Saturday night.  As in, I laid her down in there around 8pm and she didn’t wake up until almost 5am.  (!!)  And even then, it wasn’t as if she woke up squalling and freaking out.  It was more of a “fuss”.  But I missed her so badly by that point and had slept so fitfully without her right there next to me, that I hopped up and ran to grab her. Heh.

We tried it again last night, but shortly after we went to bed I heard her fuss.  I had JUST drowsed off so I was feeling loopy and I went to get her.  I didn’t realize until I got into her room and touched her belly that she had fallen back asleep.  (*cringe*)  Of course, touching her woke her up and she proceeded to freak the frack out so back to bed with us she went.  Ah well.  Live and learn.

We really enjoy “True Blood” and “Entourage” on HBO on Sunday nights.  We missed BOTH last week when we were in Elko, which is a big ol’ bummer.  But last night was awesome.  And I’m so sad that both are ending their season after, like, NEXT WEEK.  What the heck am I going to watch THEN?  BOO!  What the freak is it with these tiny, itty, bitty television seasons??  And how many months until “Lost” comes back, anyhow??

Mondays kinda suck, don’t they?  I need more caffeine.

Do I really love TV?

by Marilyn on September 26, 2008

After yesterday’s post, wherein I alienated a large part of my readership (at least this time I know why my stats went down!) (I kid!  I kid!), I started to wonder if in fact I really could consider myself a television fan since there are so many hit shows that I have never watched and never want to watch.  Should my badge identifying me as a TV Lover be revoked?  I mean, it sure seems like the TV is on an awful lot around here.  So what DO I watch if not the super-cool hawt shows that everyone else is watching?

(Good thing for you I’m out of posting ideas and don’t feel up to a WordPress Bootcamp today because I’m totally going to answer that.)

  • As I mentioned yesterday, “True Blood” on HBO is a new favorite of mine.  The unorthodox marketing campaign captured my interest and I was already sorta into the whole vampire thing from reading “Twilight”.  Luckily, Kile was also interested in it so we tuned in.  And once my prudish self gets over all the nudity (holy naked moses, batman!), it’s really an awesome show.  Even though I’m having a hard time getting used to seeing Anna Paquin with blonde hair.
  • Also am big time loving on “Fringe“.  Initially, I planned to maybe give it a look because of J.J. Abrams involvement.  Though I was concerned about it being on FOX and all (I’m still mad at FOX for burying and then murdering “Firefly“).  Then I saw a few ads that made it clear that Joshua Jackson was one of the stars.  That was all it took.  I’m a Pacey fan from way back, ya’ll.  And it doesn’t hurt that the show is mad bizarre.
  • I have mentioned before that I watch syndicated episodes of “Touched by an Angel” during the day.  The episodes are a little schmaltzy, but I enjoy them so much.  I generally watch these while the two little ones are napping and before Harry gets home from school.  I don’t have time to do it every day, but when I do it’s like heaven.  It’s one little slice of “me time” that I can halfway depend upon.
  • I have sick love for “Lost“.  I remember the ads for the season premiere of it all those years ago.  I admit, I was drawn in by the plane crash.  Call it a morbid fascination, if you will.  But I do recall that it was the season premiere I was most looking forward to because it looked so cool on the commercials.  It ended up being an entirely different sort of show than I was expecting but that was in a good way.  I’d never seen anything like it before and I LOVED IT.  Haven’t missed an episode yet.  (I didn’t even give up on it in season 3 like everyone else did.  Brownie points for me!)
  • I watch “The Amazing Race” virtually every season.  I say “virtually” because I have missed a season here and there and episodes as well.  But it is my most favorite of all the reality shows.  This may or may not have something to do with Phil.
  • Kile and I enjoy watching Bill Maher on HBO.  We don’t always agree with him and sometimes I find his particular brand of “comedy” a little on the harsh side, but we do enjoy the arguments that take place on that show sometimes.  The week before last had some good ones.  We missed last week because our DVR went apeshit and deleted all our scheduled recordings.
  • How could I leave off “How I Met Your Mother“?  Neil Patrick Harris rocks my socks.
  • Also, a huge fan of “The Office.”  Last night was the premiere and I have to admit that the end totally took me by surprise.  But then, Jim said it would take us by surprise, didn’t he?  Sneaky, sneaky!

There are also some shows that we catch fairly regularly, but not regularly enough to be on our “list”.  Shows like “House” and “Deadliest Catch” and “30 Rock” (I wish I could say we watched that one more regularly but a lot of times we, uh, forget).  But chances are, if you were to fire up our DVR you’d see recordings of kid’s movies like “Curious George”, “Over the Hedge” and “Happy Feet”, kid’s shows like “Blue’s Clues”, “The Backyardigans” and “Jack’s BIg Music Show”, and more adult movies like “You, Me and Dupree” and “Knocked Up”.  Movies take precedence over tv shows on the DVR.  We’re big movie people around here.  So maybe I am a fan of TV, just that I like to watch movies more than television shows.  Hmm.  Could be.

So what are your favorites?  And did you watch “The Office” last night?  Tell me… did you see it coming??

And on a happier note…

In an effort to spread love, peace and happiness rather than festering annoyance, I’m changing the tune here and am doing a post wherein I list the things that are making me smile these days.  Believe it or not, there are a few!

  • Reading “Eclipse“, but not too quickly because I can’t get “Breaking Dawn” before the middle of next week and I don’t want to be without EDWAAARRRD!
  • Teething or not, Evie in all her six-month-old glory is freaking adorable.  She’s so sweet and watching her little personality emerge little by little is one of the true miracles of life.
  • Liam’s delight in just about everything that he comes across.  Pesky though he may be, the twinkle in his eyes never fails to charm me.
  • My iPhone.  Yes, I still love it.  How did I ever exist without it?  At the same time, I can’t believe it can really do all the things it can really do.  It’s the single coolest thing I’ve ever had.
  • Rockstar energy drink, preferably in the “Punched” or “Juiced” varieties.   I wish I had some right now, even.  That stuff is seriously addictive.
  • “Fringe” and “True Blood”.  These two new shows are just awesome.  They fill the void that “Lost” leaves during the fall season.
  • Rachel Maddow, whiz kid of MSNBC.  I love her new show.  She cracks me up and makes crazy sense all at the same time.
  • Facebook’s evil crack game, “Make Me a Celebrity” (it’s part of the Mesmo TV application).  OMG, ya’ll.  I need more entourage if I want to win more Faceoffs.
  • That it is now officially Fall.  I vastly prefer Fall to Summer, but I just wish it would get cooler quicker.  I’m so tired of the sun.

See?  I’m not all doom and gloom after all.  So what’s making you smile today?

Playing catchup while “Lost” is on

by Marilyn on May 29, 2008

Dude.  Season finale of “Lost”.  It’s a commercial so I’m going to do these little “vignettes” in between commercials.  Or rather, during the commercials.  I have no idea what I’m talking about, do I?

Thanks so much for all the support on my post yesterday.  Yes, even from you “non-breastfeeders”. A lot of what I wrote was MY issue though (being embarrassed, forgetting to cover up, etc).  Let’s face it, I’m easy to embarrass.  It’s one of the easiest things to do to me.  Go ahead!  Try it!  It’s painfully easy.  It’s more challenging to tie your shoes in the morning than it is to embarrass me.

I guess a lot of what I was trying to get at in that post was the whole car vs. bathroom thing for nursing and why don’t more women’s restrooms have sitting areas for feeding babies and the like.  I remember the first time I saw such a setup.  It was at a new Nordstrom department store at the mall near the house where I grew up.  I was very impressed.  I knew then that this was a fancy place for surely only fancy places had such luxurious appointments.

A room like that is not just for nursing mothers.  It’s for the weary shopper who needs to sit and catch her breath, a pregnant woman who wants to rest her swollen feet, a mom who is pumping to gain privacy, a mother who formula feeds her child, a place to sit and feed her child in peace.  Nursing is just one of the utilities for such a room.  Why can’t we see this more?  I think it would be AWESOME.

Woah, that took more than a couple commercials to write that.  This finale is something else.  I have NO idea what’s going on and I’m loving every minute of it.  My mind is being blown so much that I fear there might not be much left here in a bit.

***

Yep, Evie is still wearing cloth.  In fact, Liam wears cloth too for the majority of the day.  I guess you can say I’ve gone and gotten all crunchy on ya’ll. Sorry ’bout that.  Throw in the sling usage and I might as well just relocate to a commune.

Yeah, this show is totally blowing my mind.  Also: Ben is a total pimp.

I’m going camping this weekend.  Did I tell ya’ll that?  I am.  Camping.  As in, sleeping outdoors.  For at least one night.  With two small children.  And one rather large crabby one.  CAMPING.  If you don’t hear from me before Sunday evening, send some help.  Call the forest service or something.  Tell them I was last seen in a tan Dodge Grand Caravan with a weird sticker in the back window.  You can’t miss that sticker.  People always say, “Hey, we saw you out on the road today!”  Of course you did.  It’s the sticker.   I guess my point is: Pray for me.  I’m going CAMPING.

Damn Sawyer.

I’m going to have to cut this short.  My brain is starting to bleed from the effort of concentrating on two things at once. But you all are the best, remember that.  I love you all.  I love this blog, this community, all my commenters, all my lurkers (I see you there, behind the plant) and all that good, mushy stuff.  You all complete me.  Without this blog, I’d be a hopeless case.  I’m more sure of that today than I ever have been.  Viva la blog!
