Days of Grace – Day 13

I’ve kind of dropped the “Grace in Small Things” ball, haven’t I? I guess it’s too much to assume I could remember to do this EVERY day for a full 365 days. Maybe it’ll be more like “four times a week or so”. That sounds more reasonable, right?

Robert Pattinson. I know I’ve mentioned him before. But I’m watching “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” on ABC Family and it just has to be said again. The man is a god.
Target. Shopping there brings me such joy. I just wish they’d open a Super Target out here.
Knitting. I’m getting better every day and I’m very excited to make my family some things they can use and enjoy.
1/2 price slushies at Sonic from 2 to 4pm. God bless Sonic.
Cupcakes at Whole Foods (photos to follow tomorrow). I got one in honor of my birthday (which is Friday) yesterday and ZO. M. G. So good.

My Twilight Review

I got to see “Twilight” last night! No thanks to my loving husband. My dear mother in law offered to go see it with me. And it was so exciting to get to go see it on the opening day. I didn’t even know what to expect, actually. I was almost afraid to get my hopes up too much. I know how hard it is to fullfill fan expectations in book-to-movie situations such as this. I didn’t want to get my hopes up too much. But I also didn’t want to be stubborn and dampen any thrill of actually seeing the movie either. So I felt oddly keyed up, sitting in the theater, waiting for the movie to begin.

There was a good crowd there, a lot of pre-teen girls, quite a few 30-something women. But there were men too. Most likely dragged by their significant others. But they didn’t have a long-suffering look to them, so one can only figure that they weren’t entirely opposed to seeing it (unlike some people I know). everyone was feeling rather festive. There were a lot of smiles. The line waiting to go into the theater was long, but orderly and the crowd wasn’t actually that obnoxious. I was pretty pleased.

The Harry Potter trailer? Awesome. Of course. I’m still annoyed that it’s been moved to July, but it looks as though it will be worth the wait. And hey, at least now we can go see it in the drive-in. Bonus!

Okay, so here’s what I thought of the movie. I’m going to put it behind a “more” tag, so if you haven’t seen it and don’t want to know, don’t click through. Mmkay?

First off, Edward was AWESOME. Robert Pattinson did a fabulous job. I admit to wanting to SQUEE when he first came on screen. I’m not made of stone, people! He had the perfect charisma and balance of brooding and thoughfulness. If anything he came off as LESS arrogant than Edward does in the books. So that’s a good thing! I thought Kristin Stewart made a great Bella. I found her MORE likable initially than she was in the book. Another good thing. I even liked Charlie more in the movie than in the book (did I like anyone in the book?) (Oh yes! Edward!).

Another SQUEE moment for me was when Charlie first brought Bella home and showed her the bedspread that had been picked out for her. ZOMG! That’s my bedspread!

See? Eee!! So whenever they showed her bed I would thrill inside. EDWARD touched a bedspread that looks like MINE! *swoon* (For the record, the bedspread and sheets are sold at Target. Tell your friends!)

I loved the similarities to the book and for the most part, I enjoyed the differences. I wasn’t sure I was going to like the depiction of Laurent, James and Victoria and showing them killing people and suspicion arising, etc. But I think ultimately it was a good idea because this way people who hadn’t read the books wouldn’t be as startled by the sudden switch in action when it came around to the baseball scene.

Which reminds me. I loved the baseball scene. It was a lot of fun and I enjoyed watching the interaction between the Cullens.

Speaking of which, this movie was the first time I made the connection between the phrase “Cold Ones” and the word “Cullens”. Uhm… duh?

Oooh, did you all see Stephenie Meyer’s cameo? When I saw her I think I squealed a bit and pointed her out enthusiastically to my mother in law. I guess I didn’t know she was going be in the movie so that was a nice little surprise.

I absolutely LOVED the scene where Edward saves Bella in Port Angeles. His barely-restrained fury was thrilling to watch and the stunt with the car speeding away was everything I dreamed of and more. Damn, the man can drive. I seriously wanted to cheer. I’m also seriously a dork, so there’s that.

The ending, what with the menacing Victoria and all was a segue into the next movie (and oh yes, there will be one).

I asked my mother in law afterward if she was able to follow the story and understand and appreciate what was going on and she said she didn’t have any problem. She hasn’t ever read any of hte books and didn’t even really know anything about “Twilight” at all until a few days ago. She was able to follow the movie pretty easily and enjoy it and has even expressed some interest in reading the books now. So if you haven’t read the books, don’t feel like you can’t watch and enjoy the movie.

So those of you have also seen it… what did you think? What were your favorite parts? What did you NOT like? Do you not think it’s totally cool that Bella and I have the same bedspread??
