So… after I posted on Friday about how good things are.. things became… worse. Isn’t that funny how that happens? But I really felt AWFUL. I mean… AWFUL. And I had felt awful for days and was getting so tired of feeling awful when I really should be feeling much better. I mean, the antibiotics were supposed to to help, right? Why did I feel AWFUL?
So, I did what any sane person would have done days ago and googled the antibiotics I was taking. DING DING DING!
Yeah… turns out that if you’re throat swells up and is painful and you feel weak and tired… those are BAD things to experience while on these antibiotics. HUH! Who knew? So I sorta worried. I told Kile and he didn’t seem terribly concerned. I went to take a nap after I laid the kids down and honestly wondered if I’d even wake up from the nap at all. I was feeling a little dramatic, I guess.
Anyhow, I DID wake up. And Kile brought me home a new prescription for amoxicillin so I could stop take the demon antibiotics (cephalexin, for those of you who are keeping score). He also got me a bumped up extraction appointment with a different dentist for 11am Saturday morning.
GULP.
He found me an oral surgeon, in hopes that this might increase my chances of getting more than just Novocaine in the way of anesthetic. He needn’t have bothered. Because Novocaine was all I got. And yeah, it went about as well as you’d expect. For example: I nearly passed out as they were trying to extract my tooth. I had to gargle something about “feeling woozy” (though I’m sure it came out more like “sfelseelingh fwshooosssie” or somesuch). The assistant tole me later that I scared her, how white I was. They laid me back right away and gave me a few minutes to collect myself. I think it was because I forgot to breathe. I was so nervous and tense and on edge that I was holding it all in, including air. So yeah, that would make a person feel a little lightheaded, don’t you think?
They went at the tooth again, and this time I made a point to focus on breathing. When I wasn’t manually timing my breaths, I was willing the tooth to come out. Because if it didn’t, the dentist was threatening to send me downtown to get it surgically removed. Which, I figure, would mean general anesthesia which YAY but that’s something that I could have used a half hour ago. Now that I was in the middle of it, I just wanted the stupid thing over with. It was a nightmare. So that tooth had to come out. IT JUST HAD TO.
And it did. The dentist cracked a joke about how it nearly broke her wrist. We won’t say how my jaw feels now, DAYS later. Because even hopped up on ibuprofen, I can still tell my jaw is a wreck. Sore doesn’t quite begin to describe it. As she pulled the tooth out, I could feel it on the other side of my face. That can’t be good, right? At the very least, we’re talking some good bruising.
But whatever. The tooth came out. I laid back in the chair until Kile came to fetch me. Then I beat a hasty retreat out of there, hopefully to never return. Oh, I will be going to a dentist. Just not THAT one. I already have an appointment in with Kile’s dentist for a week from today for a follow-up appointment and a care plan for all the other trainwrecks waiting to happen in my mouth. Believe you me, I decided in that chair Saturday afternoon that I NEVER, EVER wanted to have to go through that again. So help me God.
So Saturday was pretty much a wash. I took a nap, I packed my mouth with tea bags (they totally help, yo), I watched movies and ate a Wendy’s frosty. And somewhere in there it started to snow. I wasn’t really expecting that. I don’t think anyone was expecting that. It was 60 degrees out just a few days ago. Now snow? What the heck? By the time we went to bed, it was getting seriously deep.
By the time we woke up, it was deeper. Kile figures we must have gotten about 2 feet of snow out of it. So much for any plans of leaving the house on Sunday! Which was probably okay because if we stopped anywhere to eat, it’s not like I could EAT anything. And that would just be depressing. But being cooped up in the house sucks too. All in all, I will say, it was a rather lame weekend. For a month as awesome as February has been, I expected a little more. Boo.
But hey, at least I got some purty snow pictures, right? Yay.
Hey, did you know I won a Pioneer Woman giveaway? No it wasn’t for a fancy mixer or a fabulous camera or anything. But I’m still excited because these measuring cups are TDF (that’d To Die For, in case you aren’t aware). Aren’t you just insanely jealous now? I can’t believe I finally won one of those giveaways. I don’t enter all of them (a lot of them have very short time spans to enter and many times I don’t learn about the giveaway until the deadline is over), but I enter a lot. Then again, a LOT of people enter a lot of the giveaways. So the fact the fact that I was one of ten winners? Makes me insanely happy. You should have heard me shriek when I saw the post with my name on it.
I think Kile is still recovering his hearing.

Speaking of Kile. He’s getting a new toy today. I will take pictures. I’m in turn glad for him because I know this is something he wants and incredibly annoyed because he’s been a pill about planning for this and stressing about it and generally obsessing. I’ll be glad when it “arrives” and then maybe I’ll just shove it up his butt.

I haven’t shared some pictures in a while so I think I need to catch up. Please refrain from pointing out if any one child is in more pictures than another, mmkay? Otherwise I may feel obliged to thwack you in the head.
This is what we woke up to in Elko the morning we were leaving to drive back to Reno last weekend. I call this “pretty snow” because it coats everything and looks gorgeous and then takes like an hour to completely melt. Awesome.
Evie crapped out during breakfast and took a nap on her aunt’s shoulder. Her aunt didn’t mind one bit.
Yes, Liam is short, but my brother in law is also VERY TALL. His t-shirt this day was appropriate for pretty much anyone who stood next to him but with regards to Liam? Doubly funny.
This is what we call “fluffy mail” in the cloth diapering/knitting/sewing biz and it was GOOD.
I love the sun shining through icicles. <3
Yes, that’s a bruise. And no, I don’t know how I got it. Yes, it hurts.
Speaking of “fluffy mail” I was anxiously awaiting this diaper which I had ordered last week. The above is what I got instead.
SIGH.

So that’s it. I’m going shopping today with my mother in law, sister in law and niece who came to town this weekendly SIMPLY to go shopping. No boys allowed! I am so THERE.
Have you ever felt that when things are really busy for you, that your attention is being pulled in fifteen different directions, that attention isn’t whole? That your attention tends to fragment and splinter and so each issue, each project that is demanding your attetion only gets a fragment of it? Because that is exactly how I feel right now. For the last month, I’ve had more than a handful of different things clamoring for my notice and it’s almost made me become ADD or something. I have a hard time concentrating on any one thing at any one time. My brain is so full of thoughts that I am routinely forgetting things that I want to (or NEED to) do.
I’m not a fan of this.
I’m hoping to get things under control SOON. And maybe, just maybe, once things are under control then I can start truly giving this poor neglected blog the attention it deserves. I swear, the Blog Gods are going to come and take away my blog if I can’t start taking care of it properly.
I finished my first paid custom pair of longies late last week and they got shipped off in the mail on Saturday. I am beyond happy with how they came out. And I’m not even a fan of orange! These pants are so bright and happy and fun that it truly was a pleasure to knit them. I really hope their new owner loves them as much as I do.
Speaking of which, I’m thinking of doing a craft blog. Okay, I just heard your brain explode over there. I know it seems extremely foolish to start ANOTHER blog when I can’t even give the ones I already have the time of day anymore. But before you chuck something at my head, I was thinking of having it be a ground-zero for keeping track of my customs list and posting pictures of my projects and maybe some tips and tricks as I think them up. Yeah? Good idea, huh? So that’s one of the things that I’m trying to do but due to the fragmented attention, not so much yet.
I just got this fabulous diaper late last week. It was one of the “SYOF” diapers (which basically stands for Send Your Own Fabric… sort of like a custom) that I was lucky enough to get in on. It’s not my Holy Grail Diaper (that would be Wine Country) (and yes, I realize it’s fairly absurd to have a Holy Grail Diaper) but it’s way up there and I am beyond excited to have it. Evie’s 1st Birthday outfit is sorta based around this diaper (provided I can concentrate long enough to plan/purchase/acquire the rest of the outfit!).
Harry has been having fun playing on my old-n-busted laptop while he’s on break from school this month. And I thought this was too cute where the two little ones were clustered around him watching him play (Evie was trying to help, apparently). I love these little moments where my three kids are coexisting peacefully together. It helps make up for the times that Harry pushes Liam down or Liam chucks his sippy cup at Evie’s head.
Yep. Those are my diapers. All of the ones I have (so far) (I have at least two on the way), minus a plain one called “Iced Lolly” that Evie had worn to bed and was therefore sullied. It’s kind of ridiculous how much I love these diapers, mostly because they work so damn well and look so damned cute at the same time. (Seriously, ya’ll, NO BLOWOUTS. EVER.) Actually, I’m not sure I love Swords and Roses (the newest one and the one next to the pink kitty diaper). But I’m trying to ignore that little voice that says, “SELL!”
On Saturday we drove over to Portola (about 30 minutes away to the north-west in Northern California) to hang out at a cabin with my sister in law and her family. It was very snowy and pretty there. I took this picture from the (dry and warm) back step. I love my new camera and it’s bodacious zoom.
I love snow. I love everything about it. Well okay, maybe not driving in it. But everything else for sure. And I love playing around with the manual setting on the new camera, particularly the manual focus. Hee!
Harry got a chance to go sledding while we were there and his feet didn’t freeze up and fall off despite the fact that he forgot to bring his boots.
It actually kinda kills me how big he’s getting. He needs to KNOCK THAT OFF.
There has been a lot of snow and storm this weekend. We were supposed to go back to the cabin on Sunday but they got like TWO FEET of snow so we decided OH HECK NO. We stayed in town where we did not get two feet of snow but rather some cold and miserable “wintery mix”. I think I would have rather had the two feet of snow.
And then yesterday was just a “free day”. God, I love three day weekends. Of course, now I’m going to be messed up all week long about what day it actually is. Which doesn’t help my whole resolution to get things under control in my life. This week I want to accomplish (in no particular order):
- starting the craft blog
- finishing the last minute special customs I’m knitting for my mom
- finish setting up my Hyena Cart shop
- return to posting here EVERY DAY
- post a couple things to my cloth diaper blog
- delete the Christmas songs off my iPhone to free up some much needed room
- reorganize my yarn stash and take inventory on what I have
- take inventory on my knitting needles and other knitting notions
- laundry and more laundry and then after that? laundry
- dye the yarn I bought
- see if I can’t find a reasonable scale somewhere that will measure ounces and grams
Okay. I think that’s all there is. For now, at least. So what are you hoping to get done this week? I’m hoping none of you are feeling as fragmented as I am right now because it’s not a terribly happy feeling. Happy Tuesday, ya’ll!
Okay, so I have been a really, really, REALLY bad blogger. Apparently once you miss one day of posting, it becomes insanely easy to miss MANY days of posting. Of course, I did have the sorta excuse of being out of town all weekend. But… Still. I should be better.
The good thing about being lazy blogger for a few days is that I have some stuff to talk about. So let’s see… where to start…
That there yarn I dyed looks almost professional. Go me! I plan to do some more. This was achieved via Kool Aid, and no, it doesn’t make it sticky. I’m going to try some Wilton’s food dye next, as I’ve heard that can come out pretty neat too.
The Britax has landed! It arrived just in time, on Thursday night, for our trip to San Jose on Friday. The last I mentioned the Great Car Seat Decision of 2009, there was some expressions of incredulity at the price of a Britax carseat. I know they’re expensive. But I also know that expense is very much worth it to us. With Harry, we had to save money and get a more inexpensive carseat. I’ve had both kinds, and believe me, the Britax is WORTH IT. Part of it is because it is soooooo much easier to install these properly and therefore more safely. And the kids are a lot more comfortable in them. And this particular seat we got will allow us to leave Liam harnessed until he’s 80lbs and used as a booster until 100lbs. After all the videos I’ve seen on YouTube about toddlers in accidents where they aren’t harnessed? YEAH. No-brainer. And? We know they’ll last until we don’t need carseats anymore, which counts for a lot, because they’re quality made. Don’t knock them till you try them! (Which isn’t to say that some less expensive seats aren’t safe, but you can never convince me that they’re as easy or as comfortable. Trust me. I’ve tried them ALL.)
A diaper that, can you believe it, I don’t want. I ended up selling this. Ah well. It paved the way for a diaper that I wanted more so in the end, it was all for the best.
Look at all that yarn! It was sent to me so I could knit some lovely things for some lovely people. So sadly, it’s not MY yarn, but I do get to play with it. I think I want to marry it. LOL. And even MORE came yesterday. I’m a busy, busy girl!
Yeah, there was snow on the summit when we drove over the mountain. It was pretty! And thankfully, not on the road! It’s snowing here on and off today but nothing much is sticking. C’est la vie. So much for winter, eh?
Liam and Evie had a good time at my parents’ house. Evie enjoyed having another set of people to fawn over and her and to flirt with. And Liam enjoyed the attention and the new surroundings to explore. This was a rare moment where they both stopped their adventuring to watch a cartoon together. It lasted approximately .15 seconds.
This was also taken at my parents’ house. It’s not that the brotherly love exhibited in this photo is that rare, but the PEACE is. Notice: Harry is not climbing over the back of the couch and bellowing like a hellfiend and Liam is not screaming and running out of the frame. I’ll take it.
This is being knit from some of that yarn in the picture before. I did most of this in the car to and from San Jose. I tell you what, knitting is the PERFECT car activity because it makes the time just FLY by. Anyhow, these are being knit for a wonderful gal who contacted me on Etsy. And the yarn was doing a thing called “pooling” up near the top but I tried what I could to minimize it’s effects. I hope to have these done in another day or so.
Harry with two of his favorite things. Pup and Rock Band. And, oh yeah, he’s going to need braces. GREAT.
Liam got this hard hat with a construction truck set my parents got him as a gift. He comes over to me about 10 times a day to ask me to put it on his head.
I love when he does this. He always carries that nasty dolphin around by the tail and when he’s feeling tender or mellow, he’ll rub the dolphin’s tale against his cheek. It makes my heart swell when I see him do it and for a small moment in time, I can forget that the rest of the time he’s a tornado on legs.
And I’m finisheing with ME! I’ve taken in the last day or so to putting my hair in pigtails. It’s not quite long enough yet on the sides for a ponytail and the pig tails are both adorable (if I do say so myself) and keep my hair out of my face. Bonus! And no, I don’t have any idea why I have a pair of toddler socks in my front pocket. I didn’t notice that until I was developing the picture in Lightroom. D’oh!
